When still known as OPUL, Hail of Bright Stones was delighted to be part of this innovative and lush event at the University of Edinburgh. See the full video of the performance here.
15 March 2018: Looking for Lucey is a unique soirée inspired by the work of University of Edinburgh’s own scientific film pioneer Eric Lucey, whose work has recently resurfaced and is gaining attention in both the academic and art world. This exclusive event showcases some of Lucey’s mesmerizing work, by kind permission of the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Research Collections, plus additional material selected from The National Library of Scotland’s Moving Image Archive and which resonates in a particular way with Lucey’s aesthetic, and with the overall concept of the evening: the manipulation of space and time through film in such a way as to enhance our understanding of the world we live in.
These archive films are accompanied by a musical score and spoken word, composed in response to the films, and performed live by an Edinburgh-based duo Opul. The evening closes with a selection of short films, offering a contemporary look on the ideas of science and experimentation in cinema.
